The days of Perspective Tenants being required to fill out Rental Applications and pay credit check & background fees are over.
"Credit checks fees" should only be paid to people that are licensed to pull financial credit reports, generally for items that are being financed and require a FICO score. Renting property does not show on Financial reports and FICO scores, have nothing to do with your ability to lease or rent a residential property.
Applicants must be aware that every time they apply for a rental they risk exposing their personal information to people they do not know. Nor do they know how or where their personal information has been disposed or maintained even if they are accepted.
Looking for a place to live should not put you at risk of
Identity theft. Your residential payment history should be the only information made available to a Landlord.
